ENDOSCOPY SERVICE LAUNCHED IN NEPAL
Capsule Endoscopy, a technology that uses a swallowed video capsule to take photographs of the digestive tract to diagnose ailments, have been launched in Nepal. The technology, which will be available at Biratnagar- based Nobel Medical College after testing is completed during the third week of August, will enable doctors to take snaps of the digestive tract at the rate of 8-10 frames per second. “The capsule comes out from the patient’s body with the faeces within 24 hours of consumption,” said Gastrologist Dr Mohan Khadka, who studied the technology in China. Compared to the previously employed procedures, the new method is easier to administer and is less painful, said Dr Khadka at a press conference at the hospital today. According to senior physician Dr Rajesh Nepal the capsule will cost around Rs 30,000 to 40,000. The capsule costs around Rs 70,000 to 80,000 in India.
